Lauren Blouse Sewing Pattern Review
This article is short and sweet, purely because the pattern was THAT easy to make. I can definitely recommend it for a beginner.
I bought the Simply Sewing Magazine, as I do on occasion and it came with a pattern called The Lauren Blouse:
This pattern is excellent for sewing in viscose for a beginner.
I got this lovely fabric from Ebay
This pattern is easy to sew up. I did not cut the fabric at the darts shown on the paper pattern, I used a fabric pen to draw the darts accurately. I think, due to the fabric being so drapey and soft, it would have been very difficult to sew the edges together to form the darts.
The only thing I did not like about the pattern, was the fact that the interfaced neck edging is added after the shoulder seams and side seams are sewn. This made this a very touch and go situation. If I remake this top, I will definitely add the interfacing before I sew the shoulder and side seams.
The sleeves are extremely easy to set in, just use a few extra pins and keep pinning the 'extra' halfway with equal amounts of extra fabric on either side of the pins. Note that the portions up to the notches are not gathered.
The elasticated oversized 'cuffs' really work - they give the blouse a very feminine look, especially in viscose fabric. I am looking forward to wearing it in the cooler weather. I think the dark ditsy green and pink are lovely for the slightly cooler autumn days, I think it will also be lovely for winter.
The rest of the blouse went together very nicely and literally in an afternoon. I want to sew this again, but I want to add a button closure instead of the tie and I'd like to try a slightly different sleeve, perhaps a ruffle of some sort.
Here is an insert of me wearing the top. I hope you like it and have the courage to try and make your own.
