My Burdastyle Poncho Pattern Review

I decided to make something, I'd never seen until I saw it in the  11/2021 BurdaStyle Magazine.

Here are the sleeves, before I adjusted them. I made it exactly like the pattern, to begin with, but they were so big that they slipped down over my hands. After adjusting them, they stay on my wrists and are still big enough to pull up onto my forearms.

I really like this poncho, I wasn't a fan of the fabric colour, but I think its growing on me. I must admit it looked closer to mint than to Jade online. I rather fell in love with the colour of the one on the front of the magazine. It is described as Jade, to be fair. I really like the fabric and I think I will make other things in a different colour - possibly a blue or a darker green. This fabric will be lovely for a loose-fitting dress.

This is the fabric I bought.

This poncho is completely different to anything I have ever seen and I think that is partly why I had to make it. It was a really quick and easy make. It is so comfortable as well

Do you remember the Lauren Blouse that I sewed? It had a mishap in the wash. It appears that the notches at the collar frayed slightly and the neck tie had come away from the bodice. I cut a new necktie, unpicked the old one and sewed on a new one. I made the new one much longer so I can tie a proper bow.

Here is the blouse with the original tie:

Here is the same blouse with a new, longer tie.

I still have to replace the collar from my zip collar dress - I haven't got round to doing it yet.

I did have a new dress in progress, but the fabric I bought was not nice at all for the project, so I didn't finish it. I will definitely make the pattern - just not with the fabric I have. I think I might make it in a stretch crepe or a stretch velvet with elastane. The velour I bought had a polyester backing with very little elastane, and while it did stretch, it didn't recover well, so of course, the dress might become shapeless as I wear it, also I think my underwear will show straight through. I suppose it's all part of the learning journey when learning to sew. I think I will select fabrics with stretch that need to have body for the pattern I am sewing in-store until I am familiar with how they feel and stretch. Except for scuba - I love scuba. I think I will make some more things out of scuba.  I really want to make a short-sleeved velvet dress for winter that I can wear to the office. Something pretty and comfortable.
