Holiday Season Holiday Wardrobe

Finally, we can start thinking about holidays! Even if it might be a Staycation....

Lying on a warm beach soaking up the sun has felt completely out of reach for so long now, and maybe it's going to finally be possible.

Now that the 'normal' in-office work week has returned for most, we are all looking forward to a holiday.

Please note that some of the links are affiliate links and I may earn a commission if you buy anything from the links on this page. If you see something you like, you can click on the link to get to the main website to buy the item or just browse - nothing is added automatically to your basket.

The First thing I usually do is start making lists. Lists of things to do, lists of items to buy and of course a list of what to pack. If you can, keep a copy of a list you used last time, and add any items you remember you forgot last time.

My list of things to pack tends to be long, as we tend to go on self-catering holidays. I do think that if you can pack the car full and drive somewhere, you have the luxury of packing a lot.

If you are flying somewhere, clearly you have to pack much less. If there is more than one person going, you can share a few things, like a phone charger, toothpaste and body wash for the whole family.

If you are staying in the UK, do a little research, it may be cost-effective to buy some of your toiletries at your destination. Try to work out where the nearest supermarket is, where the locals shop. I can remember paying £2.50 for a very small tub of margarine years ago in Chichester. Clearly, it was a convenience store aimed at tourists.

If you really don't want to go shopping, see if there is an Amazon or eBay locker delivery shop near the hotel or self-catering accommodation. You can then order anything from Amazon and have it delivered. I think you have 3 days to collect your order. Argos and Sainsburys also have a similar service. You are able to collect orders from ASOS at Collect+ Yodel points. You will be surprised at how many collection points there are in the UK. Technically, if you stay in the UK, you don't need to pack your toiletries. It's one positive thing to come out of Lockdown.

Definitely make sure you get your hair and nails done before you leave on holiday. Although there is nothing stopping you from booking spa treatments... Also be sure to find out if there is a nail bar near where you are staying, in case you break an acrylic nail. I only mention this, because I love having gel or acrylic nails. As long as they are not too long, they are easy to care for and always look neat if you go for regular fills. It actually works out very cost-effective.

This is my hang-up toiletry bag that I bought from Primark a few years ago. It is so handy - it can be hung up and it folds closed for packing.

It feels so good to make your own clothes - why not buy your own fabric to make something in the latest trend and accessorise with accessories that simply make you feel good. You might recognise the dungarees and the floral chambray fabric - see my video and post related to this.

As a minimum, for a holiday capsule wardrobe, you need:

2 T-Shirts

1 Cami

1 Blouse (one you can dress up or down, in case you go to a smart restaurant for lunch)

1 Pair of Jeans

2 Pairs Shorts

Sarong - preferably one that can double as a skirt.

2 Dresses (at least one smart one if you will go to a restaurant one evening)

Sleepwear (for the climate)

Running outfit - including socks and bra (something easy to wash and dry daily)

2 Swimsuits (So you can wash one while the other is drying)

Underwear for at least 4 days, so you can wash 3 while you wear 1 (socks, bra knickers)

Hoodie/Cardigan/sweater - depending on the climate.

Smart comfortable shoes

Sandals and or Flip Flops

As you know, I love Tilly and The Buttons' sewing patterns. I got given one of her books for my birthday - I loved it so much, I bought the other two. She has a really clear way of explaining the instructions.

If it helps, see if there is an Amazon Hub Locker near you or near your UK destination. You can have items delivered to a location near your UK holiday destination. It could save you a whole lot of packing - at least for your consumables.

Happy Holidays! Until next time.
